Travel Accommodations

Joshua Tree is a small, remote community lacking infrastructure and a strong work force. The town has become incredibly overwhelmed with its increasing popularity and sudden demand. Therefore, getting a traditional hotel block for our guests at the few suitable places available has been about as prickly as the cacti surrounding us.

Below are our picks for the best hotels in the area and we do recommend making your reservation with them as soon as possible, since October is the most popular month for both tourism and weddings!

While hotel lodging is regrettably limited, short term rental properties are plentiful! Below are our recommendations & tips for finding an Airbnb in our area that is right for you.

Wedding Venue Address:

HighView House

59070 Wilcox Lane Yucca Valley, CA 92284

*** Please note our hotel recommendations are about 20 minutes East of our wedding venue. If you'd like something closer, we strongly suggest getting an Airbnb ****

We want to provide you with some helpful information to make sure you book the best home to suit your needs while putting you in close proximity to our residence, where the wedding is being held.

We are on far East side of Yucca Valley, off the main road that separates the town from Joshua Tree (indicated by a heart icon on the map at the bottom of this page). You’ll want to search for homes that are either in Yucca Valley, Joshua Tree, and/or Twentynine Palms - in that order. Please note: Morongo Valley & Desert Hot Springs, though seemingly close in mileage, will make for a very dark and dangerous drive at night following the reception so we do not recommend booking your stay in either of those locations.

We also want to note that while we are diligent and thorough hosts, others may not be. Do your due diligence and be sure that you read & understand all the instructions provided to you, including how to get inside/check in, how to operate the amenities, house rules, etc.

Here are nine Airbnb's within walking distance to our house/wedding venue. Click on the link and it will take you to that property's listing (if you do book one of these properties, please let us know so we can determine how many cars we may not need to account for for parking). Otherwise, please see our tips for finding another Airbnb, below.

 1. Search for homes listed by “Superhosts” in the filter. You’ll want a listing with preferably a 4.90 rating or higher…we’ll also settle for 4.85 or higher.

 2. Search for “entire home” in the filter, otherwise you may think you’re booking a house when you’re actually booking a room in the house.

 3. Search for a home with the number of beds/bedrooms you’d like in the filter. A lot of homes will say they can accommodate 10 people however they might only have 2 beds or bedrooms (the assumption is the remaining six guests will be comfortable on couches or on air mattresses)

 4. Search for homes with amenities you might like to use during your stay in the filter, such as central AC/heat, a firepit, hot tub, Wifi, etc.

 5. Look for homes with more reviews, as they’ve been operating longer and are less likely to have issues during your stay.

 6. When reading your listing’s reviews, please take the time to look at how they’re rated in individual categories, specifically communication, check in, and cleanliness - 4.8 or higher in those categories is acceptable.

 7. Double check your hosts cancellation policy. Ideally, you’ll want someone with a flexible policy, which allows you to cancel up to seven days before check in for a refund.

 8. Read your listings “house rules” to make sure you agree with them. If the hosts have too many unreasonable restrictions or additional “punishment” fees, avoid booking there.

 9. Double check the check IN and check OUT times and make sure they work with your schedule. If they don’t, the sooner you contact your host to ask for an earlier/later window, the more likely you are to get it.

 10. Anticipate extra fees being tacked on to your nightly rate due to additional guest fees, cleaning fees, taxes, and Airbnb fees.

Our closest airport is Palm Springs International Airport (PSP) (indicated on the map below with a plane), which is 38 miles & minutes away from our house/wedding venue. While they do not have many direct flights, layovers might be preferred to sitting in traffic if you were to fly into Ontario instead, which is our next closest airport at 86 miles away and 1.5 hour drive - not including that horrible LA traffic.

Other airports that may be cheaper but are much further are Burbank and LAX. However, we also suggest flying into Phoenix (PHX), though it is further mileage- wise the airfare may be less with the drive time being the same considering LA traffic.

We highly suggest booking an earlier flight so that you can make it up to the Hi Desert while there is still light out. Restaurants close early and it gets VERY dark out here to drive around.

While we do have some Uber’s and Lyft’s in the area, there are very few and you might encounter long wait times for those vehicles to arrive.

Everything in the desert is very spread out, especially if you plan on going into the National Park. Getting a rental car is highly recommended.
